RE: calgary Campgrounds

Some friends just tried to get reservtions at Calgary West (KOA), Bow Rivers Edgoe (Cochrane) and Calaway Park for the same week and were told all is booked. Banff Tunnel Mtn Trailer court is also booked.
You might be able to get a spot at a non - reservation CG on Tuesday morning as that's when locals may be pulling out after the long weekend to go home. McLean Creek in Bragg creek has a few sites with elec. that could fit your rig. But your timing will need to be really good. :(

RE: Where to go????? - Alberta

I would go for Banff or Jasper. We've stayed at Tunnel Mtn in Banff with a 41' and it was great. Go for the full hook up sites, they have the most trees and privacy.

RE: Kananaskis camping and fishing

I recommend Bow Valley PP. It just east of Canmore and right off the Bow River. Make reservations if you can.

Sorry, I don't know anything about fishing!

RE: Question for Calgarians about Canada Day

Yes, there are celebrations at both Olympic Plaza and Prince's Island Park, both downtown.
Here is a websitealthough it doesn't have any real info yet, you'll have to check back in a couple of weeks.
Have a great trip!!

RE: What to expect - what to prepare for

I suggest that you allow at least a couple of days for exploring the Banff area :) The town has some pretty good shopping and restaurants. My favorite attraction is just north of Banff, Johnstons Canyon, it's an easy hike to some pretty impressive waterfalls.
If at all possible, call the campgrounds you wish to stay at ahead of your arrival to make reservations.
Bear spray is easy enough to find in the mountains, and it's not expensive, so if you don't want to take any across the border you won't be stuck.
Have fun!!

RE: May Long Weekend

No plans for May long and I suspect it is much too late for reservations, however, we are also headed to Mt Kidd. May 2nd.

RE: Banff in August

Are any of the campsites between Lake Louise and Jasper have sites that would be large enough for 35 ft motorhome, and what about Johnson Canyon?
Johnstons Canyon campground is not for large vehicles. Very small sites with very small roads. And no hook ups.
I would suggest calling ahead to make sure the campground you intend to stay in can accomodate your size. :)

RE: RV Parks near Banff or Lake Louise

Johnstons Canyon in between Banff and LL is incredibly beautiful. There are no hookups though and big rigs won't fit. Try out the hike there anyway. It's incredibly beautiful.
Tunnel Mt. is nice, just don't stay in Village 2 (elec only... it's like a parking lot). Instead, stay in Village 1 (no hookups - smaller sites) or the Trailer Court (full hoopups, large sites). You can walk to Banff from this CG.

RE: Radium area campground details...soliciting your thoughts

Another vote for Redstreak. It can get a little expensive if you don't have a park pass. It's an extra 18$/day on top of campground fees. Definitely reserve if you can. We showed up on a Tuesday before a long weekend last year and it was full.
We've also stayed at the above mentioned Canyon Campground, which we really enjoyed, but that was a while ago so things may have changed. Some sites in the trees are really nice and the creek is beautiful. There's also an awesome hike starting in the CG that leads you through the canyon to Sinclair Falls. I recommend the hike whether or not you stay there. You can hike to the falls from Redstreak it just takes a little longer. :)
Radium is great for kids. There's tons of mini golf, a couple of go-kart tracks and two really great beaches. The hot springs are wonderful, and the Radium springs have a warm pool for swimming. It's our favorite summer destination.

RE: RV Parks near Banff or Lake Louise

Tunnel Mtn near Banff is really nice. Stay in the no-hook up sites if you can or in the full hook up sites. Stay away from the power only section.
